Ambreen Tariq is the founder of @BrownPeopleCamping, a social media platform promoting diversity, equity, and access in the outdoors through storytelling and the power of visual representation. Ambreen uses storytelling to share how her life experiences as a Muslim, South-Asian American immigrant woman have shaped her love for the outdoors and to promote for everyone to enjoy the outdoors in their own authentic ways. She's the author of “Fatima’s Great Outdoors”, her first children's book published by Penguin Random House in 2021.
Ambreen is a former honoree of the National Trust’s 40 Under 40: People Saving Places, and was a featured author in the Library of Congress’s 2021 National Book Festival. Her writing has been published multiple times in Outside magazine, and Ambreen has been profiled by the New York Times, Time Magazine, ABC News, NPR, SELF magazine, CNN Health, Elite Daily, Vogue Business, Sierra Magazine, and more. Ambreen has also been a brand ambassador for many well-known outdoors companies including Ford Mustang, REI, L.L. Bean, Airstream, Coleman, Merrell, and more.
A non-practicing attorney, Ambreen works for the federal government in Washington, D.C. She is also an Advisory Council Member of the Sierra Club's Outdoors For All Campaign and the Outdoors Alliance for Kids; Leadership Team Member of the Together Outdoors Coalition; and Founding Member of the Outdoorist Oath.
